To knit this sweater you should be comfortable working knit and purl stitches both flat and in the round. You should also be familiar with double knitting and double-layer knitting, which are used for both the shirt collar and the front bands.

Pattern Description
This sweater is worked from the top down.
The project begins with the double-layer shirt collar. Once the collar is complete, part of the stitches are placed on hold while the back yoke is worked to the underarm.
Next, stitches are picked up from the collar to work each front separately. Finally, the three sections are joined into one piece: first the two fronts are joined together along the front bands, and then they are joined to the back at the underarms.
From the underarms onwards, the body is worked seamlessly in the round to the waist edging.
The sleeves are worked by picking up stitches around the armhole and knitting in the round, incorporating decreases to shape the sleeve.
